چکیده

I. The nutritive value of solubilized wool protein prepared by dissolving finely ground wool in sodium sulphide-sodium sulphite solution followed by precipitation with 40 % acetic acid has been tested by incorporating it into protein-free diets containing the amounts of vitamins and minerals required by weanling rats. 2. At the level of 10 % (w/w) of the diet, solubilized wool protein failed to support growth in weanling rats, but when the diet was fortified with histidine, methionine and lysine a protein efficiency ratio of up to 1.8 was obtained. The effect of the addition of lysine was marginal. Similar results were obtained with solubilized wool protein prepared from dyed wool suiting material. 3. Apart from the methionine content, which varied from 0.49 to 0.66 g/Ioo g protein, the contents of the essential amino acids in the solubilized wool protein generally met the requirement of the FA0 (1957) provisional pattern, although in many of the preparations the levels of isoleucine and lysine were marginal. The tryptophan content was not determined. Supplementation of the solubilized wool protein with lysine to the level of 6-10 g/Ioo g protein slightly enhanced the nutritive value.

Improving Colorant Absorption from Pistachio Hulls on Wool Fiber Using Protease Enzyme

Nowadays, textile processing based on biotechnology has gained its importance in the view of stringent environmental and industrial safety conditions. The use of protease enzymes in protein fibers to improve some physical and mechanical properties is particularly interesting. In this research, wool yarns were first treated with different concentrations of protease enzymes in aqueous solution in...

I-4: Sperm Preparation: Biomimetic Aspects

With the advent of human assisted reproduction in the year 1978 numerous techniques were developed to isolate spermatozoa capable to fertilize oocytes. While early methodologies only focused on the aim of isolating viable, motile spermatozoa, with further progress of assisted reproductive technology, particularly for ICSI, it rapidly became clear that these two parameters are insufficient for t...

Functional Dyeing of Wool with Natural Dye Extracted from Berberis vulgaris Wood and Rumex Hymenosepolus Root as Biomordant

In this study, a functional colorant, Berberine, extracted from Berberis vulgaris wood was applied onto wool fiber using the extract of roots of Rumex Hymenosepolus as biomordant. The effect of treatment variables on the color strength of dyed fibers was examined. The fastness properties of dyed wool against washing, light, dry and wet rubbing were evaluated. Dyed samples were tested for an...

Preparation and properties of protein films and particles from chicken feather

A convenient procedure for protein extraction from hair, nail, and wool were applied for chicken feathers. The velocities of protein extraction by the Shindai method were 1.1−1.8 fold faster than those by the conventional method. The protein components mainly consisted of β-keratin. Protein films with white color were formed from β-keratin solution by Pre-cast, Post-cast, and soft Post-cast met...

Development of a Protein- and Calcium-Rich Snack Food Made From a Local Anchovy (Stolephorus spp) Flour, Soy Protein Isolate and Bambara Groundnut (Vigna subterranea) Flour

Background and Objectives: School children have a high snacking frequency. However, it is poor in nutrients. It is important to provide nutritious snack to support their growth and development. This study aimed to evaluate the nutrient content and sensory properties of a protein- and calcium-rich snack made from a local anchovy (LA), soy protein isolate (SPI), and Bambara groundnut flour (BGF)....
